Your transmission fluid's optimal operating temperature is between 160-170 degrees. Hotter and the fluid breaks down, and begins to damage seals, bearings, and moving parts. Avoid all this hassle with a transmission cooler from Perma-Cool.

Bought this to help when towing our 20' flats boat behind my 04 Tacoma Prerunner. Works great so far. No leaks or anything. My best advice is to make sure you have a suitable place to mount the cooler and plenty of clearance to run all lines and fittings to their appropriate locations. As per the instructions' reccomendations, I mounted mine in front of the A/C condenser where it can provide the best cooling efficiency. Also, it was impractical to mount it anywhere else due to lack of access to install the rear fasteners. It required quite a bit of manuvering and small hands/tools to mount the cooler with the provided zip tie mounts. Once the cooler was mounted, the rest was realtively easy. I removed my factory skidplate to allow easier access to my radiator connections, which made the job much easier. I also drained and replaced my ATF and filter at the same time so there was minimal fluid leakage when I disconnected the radiator connections. Keep in mind that this kit will add almost a quart to your fluid capacity so have extra ATF handy before you start and make sure to check it/top it up after driving a short distance. Because of the way I mounted it, I had to use the left over tubing that comes with the kit to extend the line leaving the cooler and returning to the transmission. This required a brass splice fitting which was a couple of bucks at Home Depot, but this should not be neccesary for all applications. Keep in mind, if you are looking to buy a product that produces a noticable change in performance, you may want to reconsider purchasing this cooler, because there is no real noticable change unless by chance you have a trans fluid temp gauge hooked up. If you tow frequently/drive with your foot in the floor like I do, it is a worthy purchase. |
