Good performance, but fuel mileage? Not so much.

I bought this kit to improve fuel mileage with increased air flow. I commute about 100 miles daily, primarily on interstates during peak traffic hours. Traffic conditions however dont allow me to simply set the cruise control. When I am able to restrict my speed to 70mph without being an obstacle, I notice the fuel gauge holding steady. Most days however, so as not to obstruct other traffic, I travel at 75-80mph. Early figures average 21mpg. Not impressive when 25mpg is my goal. On the other hand, when I pay no heed to fuel mileage the car has much better throttle response and is quite a thrill to drive. A Crown Vic is a big car and the LX Sport model is a personal luxury car. Over time I expect to see an improvement in fuel mileage, if I can control my urges and my right foot. Meanwhile, Im still getting used to the car, and enjoying the occasional indulgence. Im still getting 5mpg more than my F-150 with V-6 that I drive very conservatively. Installation of the kit was pretty easy though it took more time than claimed. Working alone and carefully,it took about 90 minutes. Kit quality is good, and I recommend the kit. Youll surely notice the difference in acceleration and response.

The product fits perfectly. I have a 04 Crown Vic they show that it fits only 03. According to Ford 03/04 air intake tube is the same part #. The only draw back I have is the directions need more clarification. You have to squint to see the diagram to see which bolts they are talking about to use in the assembly.

I am an diesel Technician and purchased this kit knowing that no performance or fuel milage enhancement kit makes as much of a differnence as they say they do if in fact any. To my surprize as soon as I ran my vehicle after the install I felt an instant increase in throttle response and at higher speeds I noticed more horsepower. The kit is relatively easy to install. I believe any novice could install it with the provided directions but not in the half an hour stated. As stated before Im a technician and it took me and a friend 45 minutes to install it on my 2004 Crown Vic. I have also noticed an increase in fuel milage of about 2 MPG. Great job K&N!!!
