EPROM Chips and VATS Modules
Most 1986-89 GM 5.0L and 5.7L TPI V8's had a Vehicle Anti-Theft System (VATS) programmed into their stock EPROM. This means the engine will not run if it is transplanted into a vehicle without the original vehicle's keyed steering column. If you have one of these engines and your computer has the factory EPROM chip you will need a Painless VATS bypass module. If you have a computer without the factory EPROM, you will either need to purchase an aftermarket EPROM with VATS removed, or purchase a Painless EPROM.
Harness Lengths
The standard length harnesses are designed to mount the computer under the dash or in the right hand kick panel. The distance from the distributor connector to the computer connector is 4 feet. The extra length harnesses have a total of 8 feet of wire between the distributor and computer connectors. This allows the computer to be mounted under the seat if desired.
