Electric fan upgrade
I recently installed the Flex-A-Lite electric fans on my 1998 K-1500 Chevy. Nice kit with clear instructions. I did run into a couple of small snags, I had to relocate one of the engine oil cooler lines and the lower radiator hose to clear the fan blades. The most difficult part of the installation was finding a switched electrical source; I had to remove the dashboard and hook into the 4-wheel drive circuitry. Oddly enough no drilling through the firewall is required; Chevy provided an insulated feed-through into the engine compartment – thanks General Motors! Too soon in the game to calculate fuel economy; however no fan roar during warm-up is nice and the truck is faster off the line. Overall I'm satisfied with the product; the only thing that concerns me is the electronic fan control, I'll carry the original fan with me during the summer months just as an insurance policy incase the “brain” dies. As some of the other reviewers stated I wish I had installed these years ago, still can't understand why General Motors insists on engine driven fans.
Easy to install, looks and works great. AMP draw is pretty significant but truck has two batteries and a high amp alt. I can feel the extra power and see it in the gas guage. Excellent product should have installed it years ago.
1998 Chev K-1500 238,000 miles
The fans are great, my only problem is that my altenator is a 105 amp and the fans draw enough amps that my amp meter shows about 10.5 amps when I turn on the A/C. It looks like a major operation to upgarde to a higher amp altenator. I would have to find a larger bracket and rewire for the higher amp.
Installation instructions for the fans were pretty easy to read and understand, with glasses on. The print is very small. I have gone from 13.5 mpg to 15.5
Installed in a 1997 Chevy Tahoe with 199,700 miles, I should have done this a long time ago. So far so good.
I HAD GREAT HELP TO PUT THESE ON. THEY WORK GREAT, KEEP ENGINE COOL AND FEEL MORE POWER WHEN PUSHING THE GAS. TAKE TIME AND PLAN OUT EACH STEP, CALL MANUFACTURER, THERE A GREAT HELP TOO. HAVE NOT DRIVEN LONG ENOUGH TO SEE AN MPG DIFFERANCE, BUT FEEL IT WILL BE WORTH THE MONEY.
Installed on a 1997 Chevy 2500 HD and I use it for plowing, hauling, and salting during the winter months. It keeps the tempertatures below 180 easily during hard plowing and hauling. This also keeps the trans temp down. Love it and got it on clearance too.
every once in a while you find a product that simply works. this is one of those. A rare find indeed. Install is a breeze, and works perfectly. Does exactly what they said it would. The only reget is I should have done this years ago.
Easy to install, great power gain. Went from 11mpg to 16.2mpg city on my 97 yukon , well worth the money.
I've done alot of upgrades to my truck but installing the Flex-a-lite fans was by far the best upgrade. I wish I had done it years ago. I live in the desert and was having problems with my truck running hot and ac not working effecently. My truck now runs around 160 degrees and my ac blows a constant 48 degrees. I've also noticed more power and better gas mileage. Installation was a breeze.
I am very happy with my purchase of these fans. I purchased them last summer and have only had one problem with the fuse holder melting, but Flex-a-lite is replacing it free of charge. They were very simple to install and the instructions were very well explained, everything I needed was included, even extra zip ties. I would recommend these fans to anyone.
